SFOA 8/4/08 Board Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Dick Redmond, Ed Sullivan, Steve Patterson, Gail Blanton, Guy Spiros, Randy Helms, : David Barber, Ray Glen, Steve Patterson
Missing: Ed Bates

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by David Barber.

Dick Redmond presented the Board 7/28/08 meeting minutes to Board. The minutes were accepted.

The 7 man crew option was discussed and it was determined that the correct thing to do was to not allow 7 man crews for varsity games since SFOA does not have enough varsity ready officials for all games to have expanded crews.

Contracts are still missing from Mitchell and Lakewood Ranch. They will probably need to be contracted to determine what is holding up the contracts.

Contacting new schools was discussed but since the season is about to start the subject was tabled for now.

Whether or now to have a banquet was discussed. It was pointed out how few people attended last years banquet and since we had to guarantee many more than attended, SFOA paid for many people that did not attend. It was decided to poll the general membership to see how many would be interested in attending a banquet this year.

Bob Weil handed out the results of the playoff poll. The general consensus is that most people prefer the crew concept, and all generally like the current procedure. Many did say that they do not adequately understand the current procedure so explanation may be required. The questionnaire indicated that the #1 crew should not be allowed to repeat as the #1 crew. If crew evaluations are accomplished, it was felt by some Board members that these evaluations should be included, some how, in the playoff procedure. There is some question about performing enough evaluations to be meaningful. One solution brought up was to have the evaluators perform 2 evaluations per night. It was pointed out that when this was attempted several years ago that it was not successful. No decisions were made or voted on by the Board.

The Board meeting was adjourned at 7:03 PM
