SFOA Board Meeting Minutes 9-10-2007 6:00PM

Present: Kenny Lamb, John Krentzman, Dick Redmond, Ed Sullivan, Steve Patterson, Guy Spiros, Joe Magadino, Reggie Smith

Meeting was held at  Clearwater High School. 6:00 PM

The Board reviewed the evaluations of Robert Howe and Ed Schmid provided by the Evaluation Committee Chairman, Bob Weil. After discussion Robert Howe was promoted to a SFOA 4 (varsity qualified) level and Ed Schmidt was promoted to a SFOA 8 (varsity qualified referee).

The situation regarding Patrick Lashley and his unsolicited email, etc., resulting in a official code of ethics violation, was once again discussed. By unanimous vote, the Board voted to suspend Lashley for the 2007 season. Dick Redmond was to provide a letter to Kenny Lamb who will send a registered letter to Lashley informing him of the Board Decision.

The sideline safety data requested by FHSAA was discussed and Kenny Lamb is to announce, during the membership meeting, to remind all crew referees to report this information each week via the Referee Report on the SFOA web site. Dick Redmond will forward this data to FHSAA.

Difficulties at SYFC game sites and youth organization requests were discussed with the following decisions:

    1. SFOA will not honor any verbal "scratch" requests. Only written "scratch" requests with reasons will be considered.

    2. For the remainder of the 2007 season, any SFOA official who is a coach for a SYFC organization will only be assigned to officiate PYFC              games. Likewise, any SFOA official coaching a PYFC team will only be assigned to officiate SYFC games. This decision was arrived at after a 6-2 vote in favor of the restriction.

Kenny Lamb informed the Board that he received a message from Robin Peters that he would not be returning to SFOA after his hip surgery. He will be moving to North Carolina. The resolution of the Robin crew referee situation could not be resolved  before the 7:00PM membership meeting so the Board meeting was adjourned until after the membership meeting.

After the membership meeting the board meeting reconvened  at  8:00PM.  The four 8 rated officials who expressed an interest in becoming a crew referee were to be voted on as a replacement to Robin Peters. These officials were Ed Bates, Wally DeVries, Clancy Dixon, and Ed Schmid. A secret vote was taken with the results being Ed Bates-5 votes, Ed Schmidt-2 votes, Clancy Dixon-1 vote. With the vote taken, Ed Bates was called and asked if he would accept being the crew referee. He agreed.  Troy Riley and Ed Schmid had stayed until a decision was made and when told the results were very upset. It was pointed out that all available referee hopefuls were considered and the decision was made based on what was thought to be the best interests of SFOA. It was pointed out the there will no doubt be future needs for crew referees. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30PM.
